Equality: VAR makes its way into FIFA Women’s World Cup 2019

VAR has been the most recent hot topic in football; more so than Liverpool’s possible PL title slip, or another El Clasico defeat for Real Madrid. Following it’s successful implementation in the 2018 World Cup in Russia, FIFA has made the call for the same for the upcoming Women’s World Cup.

The eighth edition of FIFA’s new enterprise, which will take place in France this year, is all set to make use of the VAR system, which some who deem it as another eye of scrutiny refute, while others who consider it a boon welcome with arms wide open.

The world football’s governing body’s representatives have confirmed talks of adopting the same system for the women’s championship have been going on in the council.

This has been a result of a recommendation of the organizing committee who asked for the implementation and use of the system’s successful assessment and planning in the recent months.

Zvonimir Boban, FIFA’s deputy secretary general (football), said:

“The chairman of FIFA’s referees committee has updated us on the progress made with regard to the implementation of VAR at the Women’s World Cup 2019.”

While it is unclear whether this recommendation will be brought to fruition in the competition or not, Boban remains in favor of the motion, saying:

“We are confident about proposing the use of VAR in France to the FIFA Council, as we are very positive about its implementation.”
The competition is scheduled for a whole month from the 7th of June to the 7th of July later in the year.
