The inclusion of 19-year-old Prithvi Shaw in the test squad in place of Murali Vijay for the remaining fixtures was a huge call made by the selectors. The youngster has been thriving in the domestic circuit for a while and the selection seemed imminent after a strong performance in the IPL as well.

Shaw, touted as the next big thing in Indian cricket has been the subject of talk ever since his days as a junior cricketer where he has managed to shatter several records to gain the notice of the world.

As the gates for the biggest platform set to open soon, the BCCI posted a clip of the Under-19 World Cup winning captain gearing up for practice in his kit at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton. Here is the tweet posted by the BCCI.

The shambolic display by the openers so far in the tour forced the selectors to dig deep for an additional opener in the form of the 19-year-old. While current openers KL Rahul and Shikhar Dhawan showed a promising display at Trent Bridge, a shuffle could be on the cards with Shaw being in a rich vein of form.

The Delhi Daredevils’ southpaw seemed at ease in England en route to an entertaining knock of 62 in the first innings for India A against the England Lions at Worcester a while ago.

As India heads into a minor transition phase through the inclusion of Rishabh Pant, Prithvi Shaw and Hanuma Vihari, it is up to the young guns to cement their spot in the line-up with the competition getting tougher than ever.

With Shaw stepping into the toughest phase of his career, his constant hard work and determination which has got him so far will be vital for his progress at the highest stage.
