The Edgbaston crowd were treated with yet another compelling day of test cricket which saw 14 wickets fall down over the two innings. The Indian bowlers bettered their efforts from the first innings to dismiss the hosts for 180.

Ashwin continued his good work by plucking the English top order before Ishant Sharma came up with a spell for the ages to reduce England to 91-7. Pyrotechnics by Sam Curran late on in the innings helped England stretch their lead to 193, setting up a target of a 194 for the visitors to scale down.

The Men In Blue did not have the greatest of starts as the bad game for the openers continued, KL Rahul and Ajinkya Rahane yet again failed to hold their ground leaving skipper Virat Kohli stranded at one end as the fast bowlers continued to pick wickets.

The dismissal of Ravichandran Ashwin, who was promoted over Dinesh Karthik left India reeling at 78-5 with more than 10 overs left in the day. Kohli continued his touch from the first innings to hold the fort alongside the wicket-keeper batsman to end the day on 110-5, 84 runs behind the target.

Day 4 promises to be a finale to remember with India chasing glory to take a crucial early lead in the series.

Brief Scorecard: England – 287 & 180

India – 274 & 110/5 (Virat Kohli 43*; Stuart Broad 2/29), target: 194
