25-year-old speedster Prasidh Krishna has been added to the Indian squad for the fourth test against England at the Oval. The series is currently level at 1-1 after England completely dismantled India with both bat and ball in the third test at Headingley.
“The All-India Senior Selection Committee – based on the request of the team management – has added fast bowler Prasidh Krishna to India’s squad for the fourth Test. Prasidh, who was on the standby list has been training and travelling with Team India right from the start of the tour. The upcoming Test will be played at The Oval, London from 2nd September,” a release from BCCI said.
If given a chance, Prasidh could become the 303rd player for India in tests. However, it is unlikely that he will get any opportunity given that the Indian team still has Umesh Yadav and Shardul Thakur on the bench. India’s ace spinner R Ashwin hasn’t even played a single match in the series.
Prasidh Krishna made his international debut against England early this year
Prasidh Krishna has been having a year to remember. After performing well in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, he received his maiden call up for the India team for the ODI series against England at home. Prasidh made an instant impact as he took the best figures for an Indian pacer on debut. He finished with figures of 4 for 54 and helped India win the first game.
Prasidh Krishna made a name for himself playing at the IPL for Kolkata Knight Riders. He doesn’t have great numbers in IPL to back his talent. But he has the ability to bend his back and generate extra bounce. Also, he can consistently bowl at a speed of 140+ km/h. Indian captain Virat Kohli had praised Krishna way before his international debut, hailing him as a x-factor player.
The series between India and England is currently following the same pattern as 2014. In both the series the first match ended in a draw. Then India scripted a historic win at Lords and England completely dismantled India in the third test. Virat Kohli was seen struggling in the 2014 series, where he was having a rough patch in his career. The same pattern can be seen in this series as well, with Kohli facing the worst phase of his career. England have their tails up and it would be difficult to stop their momentum. Hence, a tough two weeks awaits the Indians.
