ENG vs IND: KL Rahul disappointed on missing out on a big hundred

Indian opener KL Rahul has arguably played the best innings of his lifetime. He scored a mesmerizing 129 and his name will be on the honors board at the home of cricket. However, Rahul on Friday said that he was frustrated at missing out on a bigger hundred and taking the visitors to a stronger total in the second Test against England at Lord’s.

Rahul wasn’t even in the top three probable opening batters for India. Team management was looking at him as a middle-order option. The front runner Shubhman Gill was ruled out due to an injury. The second favored opener Mayank Agarwal got hit on the helmet before the first test. Whereas Prithvi Shaw was still in quarantine. Management is not showing faith in domestic performer Abhimanyu Easwaran. Hence, Rahul got the opportunity to open the innings. He made full use of the opportunity and displayed an outstanding performance.

However, Rahul could add only two runs to his overnight score before walking back to the dressing room amid big applause. Having played a fine knock, Rahul’s was a soft dismissal as he drove straight to the cover fielder in only the day’s second delivery, bowled by Ollie Robinson.

I am frustrated I missed out on a juicy half-volley: KL Rahul

The Karnataka-born cricketer said that he is always frustrated when he gets out after getting set. He was planning to add 70-80 runs in the morning session. However, he missed out on a juicy half-volley in the first over of Day 2.

The match was evenly poised after the second day’s play with England reaching 119 for three after batting for 45 overs. India were bowled out for 364 in the first innings. They could only add 88 runs to their overnight score.

Root was batting on 48 and giving him company was Jonny Bairstow on 6.

Rahul said the plan for India would be to pick up some early wickets on Saturday and take the upper hand in the match.

“It’s too early to predict. We are taking things as it comes. Our plan will be to take some wickets tomorrow. We have planned for every batsmen and we will stick to our plans,” he said.
