AS Roma starman Stephan El Shaarawy is on his way to Chinese Super League side Shanghai Shenhua as the clubs have agreed transfer terms.
The 26-year old was heavily linked with the Shanghai club previously, and is moving out of the Serie A club with only a year left on his contract, with a reported fee of €18 million according to Transfermarkt.com.
After a permanent move from AC Milan in January 2016, El Shaarawy spent three and a half seasons with Roma, netting the ball 26 times in his 93 appearances for the Giallorossi.
Although personal terms are undisclosed, it is speculated that the Italian international will earn a gainful 15-16 million euros per year.
Shenhua F.C. confirmed the transfer on Monday through a statement on their official website.
“Shanghai Greenland Shenhua Football Club and Italy’s Rome Football Club have reached a transfer agreement.”
“Stephan El Shaarawy, who has dual Italian and Egyptian nationality, is expected to arrive in Shanghai on July 8th, Beijing time.”
“After completing the relevant procedures, he officially joined Shanghai Greenland Shenhua.” the statement read.
Although the CSL side is struggling in the CSL, currently positioned 14th after winning just three matches from their opening 16 games, landing the 23-time Italy international should be fruitful for them.
