Chennai Super Kings have been going through a tough time this season of Indian Premier League (IPL) ever since the franchise reached Dubai. They were in the news as their captain MS Dhoni was going to take the field after more than a year. He was last seen during India’s defeat to New Zealand in the semi-final of ICC Cricket World Cup last year in July in England.
Even, just before the IPL 2020, he also had announced his retirement from international cricket as well. For Chennai, the three-time champions, things became worse when thirteen members of their family got affected by the global pandemic novel COVID-19 which also included two players as well.
Along with this, their key batsman Suresh Raina and veteran spinner Harbhajan Singh left UAE for India owing to personal reasons. Although they started the campaign with a victory over Mumbai Indians, they soon hit the bottom after that. CSK are placed at the last position in the IPL 2020 points table where they have only three wins from ten games.
Despite having four games in hand, CSK are on the verge of getting out of the tournament as other teams have done well respect to them. However, this is going to be the first time in their history of the league that CSK wouldn’t be a part of the top-four team of the league.
Meanwhile, they have got another blow as their all-rounder Dwayne Bravo has been ruled out of the IPL 2020 due to a groin injury. While speaking to ANI, CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan said that the Caribbean all-rounder will fly home within a few days and he wouldn’t be featured in the league anymore.
“No, Bravo isn’t playing any more part this time round and the groin injury has ruled him out. He will be flying back in a day or two,” the CEO added.
Kasi Viswanathan also opened up about the absence of their vital cogs – Suresh Raina and Harbhajan Singh.
“Undoubtedly Raina and Harbhajan are both vital cogs in the CSK unit and they were missed. But you have to respect personal decisions and that is how we function irrespective of whether it is a senior or junior player,” he further added.
CSK will take on Mumbai Indians in their next game on Friday at the Sharjah Stadium.
