Disney+ Hotstar announced on Wednesday that smartphone users in India will be able to watch this year’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup for free on the OTT platform, a format they used during the ODI World Cup and Asia Cup last year, which drew record numbers of viewers.

The T20 World Cup 2024, starting on June 2, 2024, will be hosted by the USA and the Caribbean. With 20 teams participating, matches will be held across three venues in the United States and six in the Caribbean. The tournament will begin just a few days after the conclusion of the high-octane Indian Premier League (IPL), keeping cricket fans engaged with the mega-global event.

Hotstar to make T20 World Cup an easy access for the fans

Disney+ Hotstar’s decision to offer the T20 World Cup 2024 for free on mobile aims to reach a wider audience across India and ensure that none of the sporting action is missed. This initiative follows the success of the free mobile streaming model used during the ODI World Cup and Asia Cup last year, which drew record numbers of viewers.

During the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, streamed free on mobile via the Disney+ Hotstar app, concurrency records were broken five times, with the highest record of 59 million peak viewership during the finals between Australia and the men in blue. With the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, the platform aims to replicate this success and elevate the cricket-watching experience.

The first match of the T20 World Cup 2024 will take place between the USA and Canada on June 2, 2024, at 6:00 AM IST. The tournament will also be broadcast LIVE on the Star Sports Network. The Indian squad for the T20 World Cup, announced by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), includes notable players like Rohit Sharma (captain), Hardik Pandya (vice-captain), Jasprit Bumrah, and Shivam Dube.

The free live streaming of the T20 World Cup 2024 on mobile in India is a significant development in the realm of sports broadcasting. It not only makes the game of cricket more accessible to fans across the country but also sets a new benchmark for digital accessibility in sports. As cricket fans gear up for the T20 World Cup 2024, they can look forward to enjoying the matches anytime, anywhere, right at their fingertips.
