Dinesh Karthik, the seasoned Indian cricketer, has officially announced his retirement from all forms of competitive cricket. The announcement came on his 39th birthday, marking the end of an illustrious career that spanned over two decades.
Karthik’s last professional game was the IPL 2024 eliminator match against Rajasthan Royals, representing Royal Challengers Bengaluru. After the match, he took off his gloves and acknowledged the fans as RCB players went around the stadium thanking the spectators for their support. In a touching moment, Virat Kohli embraced Karthik, who seemed to be struggling to fight back his emotions.

In his retirement announcement, Karthik expressed his gratitude towards his fans, coaches, captains, selectors, teammates, and members of the support staff. He wrote, “I’ve been overwhelmed by the affection, support and love I have received in the last few days. My deepest gratitude and sincere thanks to all the fans who have made this feeling possible.”
He further added, “Having given it plenty of thought for some time now, I have decided to move on from playing representative cricket. I officially announce my retirement and put my playing days behind me as I square up for the new challenges that lie ahead.”

Karthik also acknowledged the role of his parents and his wife, Dipika, a professional sportsperson herself, who often put her career on hold to support him. He concluded his message by thanking the fans and followers of cricket, stating that the sport and its players wouldn’t be the same without their support and good wishes.
Karthik’s career has been marked by several memorable moments, including winning the Player of the Match award in India’s first T20I against South Africa in 2006. His quickfire knock of 31 not-out in 28 balls helped India secure a victory by 6 wickets.
