Team India batsmen Shikhar Dhawan and Shreyas Iyer joined the squad earlier today to train after recovering from COVID-19. The players, however, won’t be available for the second ODI that gets underway later today.
Dhawan and Iyer were among two of the four players that were tested positive upon arriving in Ahmedabad. The pair were put in isolation on a separate floor in the team hotel along with Ruturaj Gaikwad and Navdeep Saini.BCCI shared footage of the duo joining the team on its Twitter handle. Dhawan said:
“It feels really good. I’m stepping out of the room for the first time after 7-8 days, so the feel of coming to the ground is something else. It felt good to practice with everyone else, had a lot of fun,”
“Training was light on Day 1 since I’m returning back from COVID. ECG and all was done to check whether everything is alright with the heart or not. Did a bit of batting, looking to do more now,”
They're Back! 👍 👍

Iyer said:
“I was asked to do 3 rounds of the ground after coming back, the first 2 rounds were difficult but then the lungs opened up and the third one was pretty easy. It took me a bit longer to get acclimatized to the weather and the conditions, but otherwise, I’ve been good”
“Started with small drills, sort of got into the rhythm and gradually I increased the pace. I’ll take it forward from here,”
Dhawan and Iyer were both part of the playing XI in the recently concluded ODI series against South Africa. While Iyer did not have an eventful set of outings, Dhawan continued to make his case for the ODI format by being the top run-getter for India in the series.
Ishan Kishan opened the innings in the absence of openers in the squad. While Dhawan and Iyer will be available for selection in the third ODI, KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal have completed their quarantine and could be part of the second ODI.
India will take on the West Indies in the second ODI of the series in Ahmedabad. The Men In Blue have a 1-0 lead currently after a resounding win in the opening contest.
