In a significant development within the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Devajit Saikia is set to take over as the new secretary, while Prabhtej Bhatia is likely to become the treasurer. Both officials have filed their nominations for these key positions and are currently the only applicants, making their election almost certain.

New appointments in BCCI

Devajit Saikia, who has been serving as the interim secretary since Jay Shah took over as the ICC chairman on December 1, has a rich background in cricket administration. He was nominated as the interim secretary by BCCI president Roger Bonny after Shah’s departure. Saikia’s nomination marks a continuation of his involvement with the BCCI, where he has previously held the position of joint secretary.

Prabhtej Bhatia, representing the Chhattisgarh State Cricket Sangh, has applied for the treasurer’s position, which became vacant after Ashish Shelar took oath as a cabinet minister in the Maharashtra government. Bhatia’s nomination is expected to bring fresh perspectives to the financial management of the BCCI.

The election process for these positions is scheduled to conclude on January 12 during the BCCI’s Special General Meeting in Mumbai. Given that Saikia and Bhatia are the sole candidates, their election is anticipated to be a formality. This transition in leadership is expected to bring stability and continuity to the BCCI’s operations, ensuring that the board continues to function smoothly.

Saikia’s extensive experience in cricket administration and Bhatia’s financial acumen are seen as valuable assets for the BCCI. Their appointments are likely to strengthen the board’s governance and strategic planning, contributing to the overall growth and development of cricket in India.

With Devajit Saikia as the new secretary and Prabhtej Bhatia as the treasurer, signal a promising future for Indian cricket. Their combined expertise and dedication to the sport are expected to drive positive outcomes for the board and its stakeholders.
