India’s top shuttler, Lakshya Sen, bowed out of the Indonesia Open Super 1000 tournament after a hard-fought quarterfinal match against world number 5, Anders Antonsen of Denmark. Despite a valiant effort, Sen lost in straight games, showcasing intense competition.
Sen, who is ranked 14th in the world, fought valiantly but ultimately succumbed to a 22-24, 18-21 defeat. The match, which lasted one hour and one minute, was a display of intense competition and skill.
Lakshya Sen’s impressive fight
The first game of the match was a see-saw battle that kept spectators on the edge of their seats for 32 minutes. Both shuttlers were evenly matched, exchanging points in a thrilling contest. Antonsen took an early 4-0 lead, but Sen demonstrated resilience, quickly levelling the score at 5-5 and then pushing ahead to 15-11. However, Antonsen’s strategic play, utilizing his reach and engaging in long rallies, tired out Sen and allowed the Dane to catch up at 16-16. The tension continued to build as the score reached 22-22, but Sen faltered at a critical moment, handing the first game to Antonsen.
The second game mirrored the intensity of the first, with neither player willing to concede an inch. Both Sen and Antonsen gave their all, battling fiercely until the score reached 18-18. Unfortunately for Sen, a few unforced errors at this stage proved costly. Antonsen maintained his composure and capitalized on Sen’s mistakes, clinching three consecutive points to win the second game and secure his spot in the semifinals.

Antonsen’s victory sets up a semifinal clash with eighth seed Kunlavut Vitidsarn of Thailand. As the tournament progresses, all eyes will be on Antonsen to see if he can carry his momentum forward.
