With the back to back exits of Lakshya Sen and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy-Chirag Shetty duo from the quarterfinals of the ongoing Denmark Open Super 750 in Odense, the Indian campaign at the tournament comes to an end this Friday night.

Sen, the reigning Commonwealth Games champion and the 2021 Worlds bronze medallist, went down against Kodai Naraoka of Japan in his men’s singles outing, losing to the 2018 Youth Olympics bronze medallist by a 17-21, 12-21 margin. Even though it was Sen who defeated him at the 2018 Youth Olympics semifinal, Naraoka has now marked three wins over the Indian on the international circuit.

Starting off the clash with a 5-2 lead in the opening game, Naraoka extended to 13-9 before Sen caught up to him at 15-14. However, the Japanese shuttler still kept moving ahead to pick up the first game.

The second game had Naraoka in a more comfortable position. Opening up with a 5-1 lead, he extended it to 11-3 at the interval before moving 13-6. Even though Sen managed to pick up three consecutive points beyond that point, it proved to be Naraoka’s night as he grabbed the straight game win.

Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, on the other hand, ended their run against the Malaysian duo of Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik. The high ranked Indian pair suffered a 16-21, 19-21 to the reigning world champions earlier in the day.
