India’s badminton star Saina Nehwal failed to overcome Taiwan’s Tai Tzu-Ying at the 2018 Denmark Open finals and settled for a silver medal at the Odense Sports Park. The Olympic Bronze medalist lost 13-21, 21-13, and 21-6 to the World No.1 under 52 minutes.

Tai Tzu Ying took a 5-1 lead early on in the first set, and Saina played catch up to it. However, the 24-year-old maintained her nerves and took the first set 21-13.

Saina Nehwal started the second set on a positive note after taking a 9-4 lead. The 2018 Asian Games gold medalist failed to lodge a comeback as Saina pushed the game to a decider after winning the second set with the same scoreline.

However, fatigue wore in for Saina as she gifted her opponent nine straight points from 2-2 to 2-11 early on in the game. Tai Tzu-Ying showed no mercy as she won 5 consecutive points to win the final set 21-6.

With Saina Nehwal’s loss, India’s journey at the Denmark Open comes to an end as Srikanth Kadambi lost to Japan’s Kento Momota earlier today.

The Sportsindiashow team wishes Saina Nehwal and the Indian badminton fraternity best of luck for their future endeavors.
