In a remarkable and unprecedented moment in T20 cricket, the Delhi cricket team became the first ever to use all 11 players as bowlers in a single innings. This historic feat was achieved during their match against Manipur at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai as part of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
Delhi’s unique feat in T20 Cricket
Delhi’s captain, Ayush Badoni, led by example, bowling two overs himself and claiming the wicket of Chingakham Bidash while also bowling a maiden. The team’s strategy was necessitated by a strong start from Manipur, who were reduced to 41 for 6 in 9.1 overs. Despite the early setbacks, Manipur’s Rex Singh and Ahmed Shah managed to stabilize the innings with a partnership of 52 runs for the seventh wicket.
However, Delhi’s bowlers, including standout performances from Harsh Tyagi and Digvesh Rathi who each took two wickets, managed to restrict Manipur to 120 for 8 in their 20 overs. Delhi’s bowlers, including Aayush Singh, Priyansh Arya, and wicketkeeper Anuj Rawat, all contributed to the effort by bowling an over each.
In the chase, Delhi initially struggled, losing four wickets for 44 runs in 6.4 overs. However, Yash Dhull, who led India to glory in the U19 World Cup 2022, played a match-winning hand. He remained unbeaten on 59 off 51 balls, guiding Delhi to a comfortable victory with nine balls to spare.
This unique strategy not only highlights the flexibility and dynamism in T20 cricket but also adds a special chapter to the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Delhi’s innovative approach will be remembered as a historic moment in the world of T20 cricket.
