In ahead of agreeing personal terms with Juventus, Ajax captain and defender Matthjis de Ligt has expressed his admiration for club superstar Cristiano Ronaldo.
The 19-year-old met CR7 at the 2019 UEFA Nations League final, where Portugal beat Holland 1-0. Soon after, the 34-year old Portuguese forward asked de Ligt to join the Old Lady.
Ajax Under 18 coach Brian Roy also believes a move from Amsterdam to Turin is the best option for the teenager at the moment.
According to Dutch outlet Voetbal International, De Ligt heighten the Juventus link by expressing his commendation for Ronaldo.
“Everything is going fast. During the season, in the club and during the various competitions, you don’t really have time to think about it.”
“However, sometimes I realise it, as recently when I had dinner with my childhood friends who I used to play with.”
“We came to the conclusion that I always wanted to be Cristiano Ronaldo when we played soccer in the garden.”
“Especially during the period when he played at Manchester United. Even my first football shirt was his.”
While de Ligt is aiming for a new chapter of his career with his idol, United has already lodged an official offer for the teenager, according to BBC Sport’s David Ornstein.
Links with PSG are also being speculated, as the player’s girlfriend Annekee Molenaar was recently spotted house hunting in Paris.
