India failed to capitulate on their 2-0 lead in the recently concluded 5 match ODI series against the Aussies. The end result was the Aussies winning the series 3-2.
There were long discussions and debates that went into this shock defeat from Australia after a stellar show in Australia and New Zealand.
And now, former Australia vice-captain David Warner, who just completed a one year ban from International cricket, has come out with the reason behind why India lost the home series. According to him, Dhoni, who did not play in the last 2 ODIs was the difference between the two sides.
Dhoni was rested for the last 2 ODIs that were played in Mohali and Delhi, and Pant was his replacement, handling the wicket-keeping duties.
While talking to India Today, Warner said, “We know MS wasn’t playing the last couple of games and you know from the Australian point of view, I thought ‘that’s a big gap, a big hole and we’ve got a chance.”
“That’s the impact one player like him has from an opposition’s point of view. These are the headaches a lot of teams will have when they are selecting their 15 [for the 2019 World Cup],” Warner added.
Warner missed the last edition of the Indian Premier League, as it followed the ball-tampering scandal closely. However, now the ban is lifted and Warner will be back in the Orange army, up at the top, leading from the front. Last year, it was New Zealand captain Kane Williamson who was the skipper of the Hyderabad team.
