Sunrisers Hyderabad slumped to their fourth loss in the tournament following a super over against Delhi Capitals. The focus was once again on the fragile SRH middle-order devoid of Manish Pandey. Kane Williamson had to battle it through in the middle overs with negligible support from the other end.
During the post-match presentation, David Warner addressed the middle-order crisis and stated that the exclusion of Manish Pandey from the playing eleven was a harsh call taken by the selectors.
“It depends on the selectors, it was a harsh call, But at the end of the day it is a decision that they took and you cannot discredit Virat, he’s a very good player and the surface was difficult,” Warner said
Manish Pandey has a fifty under his belt among the three matches he has contested so far. However, his strike rate and shot selection have been widely criticized which led to his omission from the squad for the game against Punjab Kings.
Virat Singh and Kedar Jadhav struggled immensely in the middle phase of the game and the batsmen who followed them did not have a notable outing either.
Warner praised the bowling unit for restricting DC to 159-4 after they received a strong start courtesy of Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan.
“It has been a tough one. The way our bowlers came back after the powerplay was fantastic,” he said. “We knew on this surface if you got off to a flier it is always going to be tough in the middle, the bowlers executed well.
“I thought Vijay (Shankar), who is not one of our strike bowlers, bowled fantastically, could have bowled him an extra one, that’s the handiness of having him in the middle but the bowlers got us to a good total to chase,” Warner added
With the help of the ever-composed Williamson and a few hits by Jagadessha Suchith near the end of the innings, SRH were able to drag the encounter into a super-over.
After completing their grueling Chennai leg, SRH will move to Delhi to play their next four matches, the first of which is against league leaders CSK.
