Dada’s classy gesture towards the poor as India is locked down due to Coronavirus

From the city of Wuhan in China, the novel Coronavirus found its way to cause havoc in Europe, and has now spread into India. A total of 637 positive cases have been confirmed in the country, along with 13 deaths. Although the BCCI has decided to postpone all of its upcoming major cricketing events, including the 2020 IPL season, the president Sourav Ganguly has gone one step ahead to tackle the virus outbreak. The former captain of Team India has decided to aid the poor and underprivileged of the country, and has pledged to donate rice worth Rs 50 lakh.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has recently announced a 21-day lockdown all over the country, which will be in effect till 14th April. While citizens have a lease on stocking up on essential commodities, the underprivileged of the country, who are now kept in government schools, would have been deprived.

The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) has recently confirmed in a statement that Sourav Ganguly have joined hands with Lal Baba Rice company, owned by Bhadreshwar Group, to donate rice worth Rs. 50 lakh to the poor in the time of need.

“It is heartening to note that Sourav Ganguly along with Lal Baba Rice has come forward to provide free rice worth Rs 50 lacs to the needy people who have been put in government schools for safety and security,” CAB said in a statement.

“Hope this initiative of Ganguly would encourage other citizens of the state to take up similar initiatives to serve the people of our state,” the statement added.

CAB themselves have donated Rs. 25 lakh to the Emergency Relief Fund of the Government of West Bengal. Avishek Dalmiya, the president of CAB has also lend a land to support the poor in the crisis, and has personally donated Rs 5 lakh in addition.

On Tuesday, following the announced of the country-wide lockdown, Dada released a video on Twitter, where he advised the citizens of India and around the world to follow the guidelines of the Government and health departments.

“Isolation is very, very important. Be safe and be healthy, and most importantly, be sensible,” the 47 year old emphasised in the clip. Check it out below-

In West Bengal, the total number of positive Coronavirus cases have jumped to 10, and one 57 yer old patient had passed away earlier on Monday.
