The prospect of a semi-final spot ended for the West Indies after a heavy defeat to India. The Men In Blue triumphed in all the three departments to get closer to the semi-final.

On a surface which had been used, Virat Kohli had no hesitation to bat first and hoped for the spinners to take advantage of the dryness of the surface and the rough spots.

Rohit Sharma endured yet another lacklustre outing while KL Rahul narrowly missed out on a half-century. Virat Kohli yet again applied himself on a slow surface and adapted well to notch up his fourth successive World Cup half-century becoming the third Indian after Navjot Singh Sidhu and Sachin Tendulkar to do so.

Despite once again lagging behind in the middle overs courtesy of the early dismissals of Kedar Jadhav and Vijay Shankar, pinch hitter Hardik Pandya boosted the run rate with a handy knock.

MS Dhoni proceeded to bring up his fifty as well despite starting off slow. The southpaw scored 16 off the last over to help India post 268-7 after 50 overs.

The explosive West Indies line-up had no answer to the fiery spells from Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammad Shami. After dismissing Chris Gayle with a delivery that skidded off the surface, Shami took things up a notch by castling Shai Hope with a peach of a delivery.

With the top order rattled, wickets at regular intervals made the target beyond reach for the Windies who ultimately collapsed for 143.
