India faced their solitary defeat in the group stage against the hosts. Despite the defeat, the Men In Blue comfortably qualified for the semi-finals while England had to struggle towards the fag end of the competition to book a spot in the top four.

England got away with the two points when the two sides met in Birmingham. Opening upon the defeat, Ravi Shastri admitted that God was in England’s dressing room during the clash and wishes god to change his allegiance in case the two sides meet once again in the finals. The Indian coach stated in an interview with the ICC:
“I thought god was in England’s dressing room that day. Hope if we play England next, he sits in ours,”

Shastri also claimed that he is not surprised after witnessing Rohit Sharma’s scintillating form and picked his hundred against South Africa in the first match of their campaign as one of the Hitman’s best knocks. He said:
“It was a tough wicket. It was two-paced. So I thought it was a special innings from Rohit because among all the ODI hundreds he has got, I thought that was one of his best,”
