CSK were coasting towards a par total at the Wankhede during the first of Sunday’s two fixtures. Ravindra Jadeja changed the course of the game by hitting 5 sixes in the final over off Harshal Patel and equalling the IPL record for most runs scored in an over.
After a promising start by Faf Du Plessis and Ruturaj Gaikwad, CSK slipped in the middle overs and were staring at a potential total of around 160-170.
Conceding 17 runs off his first 3 overs and accounting for the wickets of Suresh Raina, Faf Du Plessis, and Ambati Rayudu, Harshal Patel was given the ball for the final over.
Ravindra Jadeja was agonizingly dropped on a duck off Washington Sundar by Daniel Christian and the all-rounder punished the opposition in the final over.
The all-rounder dispatched the first two deliveries over mid-wicket following which the bowler could only respond with a no-ball.
The delivery over the waist and the subsequent free hit were both hit for maximums as well.
Harshal Patel came back strongly with a wide yorker, off which Jadeja was able to obtain 2 runs following a dropped catch at cover by Siraj.
The final two balls of the over yielded a four and a six to take the runs conceded to a record-equalling 37 and CSK to 191-4 in their 20 overs.
Jadeja ended up scoring his second fifty of his IPL career and remained unbeaten on 62 off 28 deliveries.
