The Indian Esports teams have booked their entries for DOTA2 and Rocket League in the upcoming 2022 Commonwealth Esports Championships after spectacular performances in the South Asian regional qualifiers.
The Rocket League team, with Hargun Singh in the lead along with Nirjhar ‘josce’, Mehta and Rushil Reddy Yarram, won all three of their matches and secured the top spot in the points table for the title. On the other hand, the DOTA2 team consisting of Ketan Goyal, Abhishek Yadav, Shubham Goli, Vishal Vernekar, and Moin Ejaz as the skipper, won four out of their six matches to finish in second place.
“My experience in the whole regional qualifiers so far has been an eye-opener with regards to how Esports is expanding so quickly in regions like South Asia, especially in Rocket League,” Rocket League team captain Hargun said after their marvellous feat.
“We are happy and a bit disappointed as well for our run in the regional qualifiers as we were expecting a clean sweep. We will continue our grind and have to study good teams in our Esports title and learn better strategies, skills, coordination and teamwork,” added DOTA2 team leader Moin.
The Commonwealth Esports Championships will take place in Birmingham between 1st and 7th August and will provide a vital experience for the players of the country in preparations for the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, which will host Esports as a medal sport for the first time. Alongside Rocket League and DOTA2, the Championships will also feature the renowned football simulator eFootball 2022.
