Chris Gayle docked 10 per cent match fee following IPL Code Of Conduct breach

Kings XI Punjab batsman, Chris Gayle, was fined 10 per cent of his match fee for breaching IPL’s Code Of Conduct during their 7-wicket loss to Rajasthan Royals. The T20 veteran had thrown his bat away in frustration after being castled by Jofra Archer for 99.

Coming in at 1-1, Chris Gayle turned back the clock with a vintage inning that took Abu Dhabi by storm. The 2-time Orange Cap winner struck 8 sixes and brought up his 1000th T20 maximum in the process.

Chris Gayle’s impulsive moment of anger cost him in the end.

The left-handed batsman was only a solitary run away from his 7th IPL hundred in the final over with a couple of deliveries left. Having just hit a six off Jofra Archer, Gayle was met with a very full delivery the next ball that found its way to the stumps after a couple of deflections.

The agonizing way of being dismissed coupled with the frustration of being dismissed on 99 channelled Gayle’s anger, who resorted to flinging his bat away towards the direction of short midwicket in the end. The West Indian did shake hands with Jofra Archer right after, but the damage was already done.

Following the conclusion of the match, the IPL released a statement where it was revealed that Gayle had accepted the breach of conduct and accepted the punishment which involved 10 per cent of his match fee.

“Chris Gayle, the Kings XI Punjab batsman, has been fined 10 per cent of his match fee for breaching the Dream11 Indian Premier League’s (IPL) Code of Conduct during his team’s match against Rajasthan Royals at Abu Dhabi,”

“Mr Gayle admitted to the Level 1 offence 2.2 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct and accepted the sanction,”

“For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding,” The statement read

Gayle considers this innings no less than a hundred

Right after being dismissed for 99, Gayle was asked about his knock who claimed that despite missing out on the three-figure mark on the scoreboard, he still considers this innings to be a ton.

“To the guys who I promised to get a century, I missed out today but in my mind, it’s a century (laughs). We just need a win,” Gayle said at the halfway mark of the innings.
