Kiwis’ first day out in the island of Sri Lanka as part of the World Test Championship resulted in a comical incident towards the end of the day’s play.
An attempt by the tailender to sweep a delivery by Lasith Embuldeniya led to a moment of utter disarray and splits for a while. Having misjudged his shot, the ball took the edge and hit the seamer’s helmet and in a rare instance, it stayed put.
This left Boult in a state of bewilderment which led him in an attempt to search the ball within his area of vision. The ball had to be eventually removed before the action resumed.
The incident also caught the eye of ICC who proceeded to post an image of Boult with the red cherry with a witty caption of “Caught and Boult”.

Boult was eventually dismissed for 18 after hitting a four and a six and was the second last wicket to fall before the Kiwis bundled out for 249.
