Chennaiyin FC, a prominent Indian football club, has bolstered its defence by signing 26-year-old defender Vignesh Dakshinamurthy on a four-year deal. Primarily a left-back, Vignesh brings versatility and experience to the Chennaiyin backline, making him a valuable addition to the squad.

Chennaiyin FC’s new signing: Vignesh Dakshinamurthy

Vignesh began his career with Bengaluru’s Ozone FC, where he played for six years—three in the academy and three with the first team. His senior debut at just 17 showcased his talent, and he was a star performer during Ozone’s 2018 I-League 2 Final Round run.

In 2018, Vignesh stepped up to the Indian Super League (ISL) with Mumbai City FC. He made over 60 appearances for the Islanders across various competitions, including four AFC Champions League matches. His explosive attacking play and efficient defensive tracking earned him a crucial role as the left-back.

Vignesh was part of the Mumbai City FC team that clinched two ISL Shields (in 2021 and 2023) and one ISL Cup (in 2021).

After five years with Mumbai City, Vignesh joined Hyderabad FC in the 2023-24 season. He later went on loan to Odisha FC, where he made 17 appearances across all competitions.

Ecstatic about joining the two-time ISL champions, Vignesh expressed his pride in representing Chennai and the club. He feels at home and is committed to contributing to the team’s success.

Head coach Owen Coyle welcomed Vignesh, praising his fantastic ability in the ISL. The competition to sign him from other clubs highlights his talent and potential impact.

Vignesh’s signing adds depth and quality to Chennaiyin FC’s backline, and fans eagerly await his contributions in the upcoming season. As he dons the Marina Machans jersey, his journey continues, and the rich culture of Chennai and the club will inspire him to give his best on the field.
