CBI raids ex-IOA and FIH president Narinder Batra’s former office, finds “incriminating documents”

On Monday, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) conducted a raid on the office the former Indian Olympic Association (IOA) and the International Hockey Federation (FIH) president Narinder Batra had tenanted, and the investigating officials stated to have found “incriminating documents and records” linking to alleged misappropriation of funds.

The CBI filed a case against Batra after their findings from the raids conducted at the offices of Hockey India and IOA along with his residences in New Delhi and Jammu, a few hours before the veteran sports administrator resigned from his presidential tenure and gave up his International Olympic Committee (IOC) membership.

“Searches were conducted today at offices of HI & IOA at Delhi; residential premises of the accused at New Delhi & Jammu which led to recovery of incriminating documents/records. Investigation is continuing,” an official statement from the CBI read on their website.

Back in April, the CBI started a preliminary inquiry against Batra, who was suspected to have misappropriated Hockey India (HI) funds, amounting up to be an estimated 35 lakh. A month later on 25th May, a High Court ruling terminated Batra’s position as the IOA prez, along with ending his “Life member” status in Hockey India.

The CBI also filed cases against former HI president Rajinder Singh, ex-secretary general and subsequent prez Mohd. Mushtaque Ahmad as well as against former executive director R K Srivastava, charged with “illegalities for renovation and furnishing of the office of IOA president in 2018.”

“It was alleged that during 2018, then HI President and then Secretary General in conspiracy with then IOA President and then Executive Director got executed the work of renovation & furnishing of the office of then IOA President without prior approval of Executive Board of Hockey India,” the statement continued, “It was further alleged that in order to justify and to cover up the fraudulent expenditure at approval stage, the accused fabricated and falsified the records.”
