Dhawan has been entrusted with the responsibility of overseeing a second-string team with most of the senior members currently stationed in England. The current Indian setup in Lanka comprises a blend of experience and youth. There are six uncapped players as well in the unit who will be eager to showcase their talent at the highest level for the nation.

Speaking on Star Sports’ show Follow The Blues, Dhawan stated that he expects the youngsters and the senior members of the side to learn from each other over the course of the six matches in the island nation.

“It is a big achievement for me that I have become the captain of the Indian side. As a leader, my idea is to keep everyone together and happy,”  he added.

The newly elected skipper also went on to explain his relationship with Rahul Dravid. The former India batsman will coach the side for this particular assignment.

“I have a good relation with Rahul Bhai. When I started playing Ranji Trophy, I played against him, and I have known him since then. When I went to play India A match, I was the Captain, and he was the coach, so there was interaction,” he said

Moreover, this won’t mark Dhawan’s first time being coached under Dravid. The legendary player was the coach of the India A side when Dhawan was a part of that setup.

He also went on to add their interaction after Dravid was appointed as the director of NCA.

“When he became the Director of NCA, we used to go there for around 20 days, so we had a lot of interaction. And now that we have the chance to play six matches together, so it will be great fun,” he added.

The limited-overs series saw a slight obstacle with the Lankan camp being hit by the virus. Despite the setback, the series is all set to take off with the first ODI on Sunday.
