Boxing: Canelo Alvarez to face Rocky Fielding at Madison Square Garden on Dec.15

Canelo Alvarez announced that he’ll be returning to action on December 15, heading to Madison Square Garden to move up in weight and face WBA “world” super middleweight champion, Rocky Fielding.

This comes as a major shock to Boxing fans as Canelo recently emerged victorious against Gennady Golovkin in the biggest fight of his career and it was expected that he would take a stay busy fight against David Lemieux, but Canelo shocked the boxing world by choosing to move up in weight class to challenge Rocky Fielding.

Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn revealed Canelo’s promoter Eric Gomez, of Golden Boy Promotions, approached him to arrange the fight.

“It’s something I didn’t think I’d ever say,” Hearn told Sky Sports News.

“Rocky Fielding will defend his WBA title against Canelo Alvarez at Madison Square Garden. The Scousers are coming – this is going to be the trip of a lifetime.

Fielding won the title in Offenburg, Germany, in July after a dominant fifth round knockout victory over the previously undefeated Tyron Zeuge.

Eddie Hearn announced the fight on Instagram with the caption “dreams really do come true”.
