Former Aussie international Brad Hogg has a suggestion for Prithvi Shaw after the disappointing performance in the first Test- asking Team India to try the young batsman in the middle order. Moreover, Hogg also names Mohammad Siraj as the replacement for the injured Mohammad Shami.

Prithivi Shaw’s return to donning the white jersey turned ended up in a massive upset. In the opening match of the Test series in Adelaide- where the Indian batting order was decimated against the Australian bowling squad- Shaw only managed to score 4 runs across both innings, including a duck in the first one.

Before the second Test approaches, Shaw has fallen out of favour from the team selection and is expected to be subbed by Shubman Gill for the opening spot. However, Brad Hogg has an entirely different suggestion for Shaw in mind.

The former bowling all-rounder states the 21-year-old should be moved down from the opening spot and into 4 or 5 in the batting order, mentioning his brilliant spell in domestic cricket.

“Shaw has made a lot of runs in domestic cricket, so he has talent. I think India should look at him at 4 or 5 for the long term, where his technique will be better suited,” Hogg posted on Twitter, replying to an India XI lineup suggestion from a fan.

Siraj is the bowler in Brad Hogg’s mind to replace the injured Shami

Currently training behind 0-1, India heads into the second Test on Boxing Day at the MCG without Virat Kohli, who has flown back to India on paternity leave and Mohammad Shami, the veteran bowler who sustained a wrist fracture in the first Test and has been ruled out for six weeks.

Hogg, however, backs Mohammad Siraj to fill in for Shami for the 2nd match of the red-ball series against Australia, after being asked the same on Twitter.

While he has made only a single ODI and three T20 appearances for the Men in Blue, Mohammad Siraj enjoyed a stellar IPL 2020 campaign which has garnered him massive attention from the fandom and Hogg opines the 26-year-old’s Test debut should be in Melbourne.
