After a shocking failure of the batting order, Team India lost the first Test of the Border Gavaskar series in Adelaide and are preparing to turn things around in the remaining three Tests. However, Brad Haddin feels India have already lost their best winning chances.
The Indian batting order was completely devastated in the second innings of the first Test at the Adelaide Oval. Without any batsman touching double-digit scores and stalwarts like Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane both ducking, the visitors were bowled out in just 36 runs, followed by a quick 8-wicket victory from the Aussies.
Before the Boxing Day test makes its approach on 26th December, the Men in Blue are aiming to rectify their errors from the first Test to redeem themselves in the series, with heavyweights like Ravindra Jadeja, KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant and Shubman Gill set to start for the visitors, while the skipper Virat Kohli set to depart for India and Shami ruled out of the series.
Meanwhile, former Australian international wicketkeeper-batsman Brad Haddin has stated that India will not be able to turn things around in the subsequent matches of the Test series.
Brad Haddin sees no hope for India in the remaining matches of the Test series
Speaking to SEN Radio, Haddin claimed India had their best winning chances in Adelaide.
“I don’t think they will (recover from the loss). I thought their only opportunity to win a Test match was the first Test at Adelaide,” Haddin said.
The following three matches are in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane and according to Haddin, India has no chance of winning at Gabba whatsoever but also keeps the other two pitches out of the equation as well.
“I thought the conditions suited their bowling and I thought they’d get enough runs. But I don’t think they’ll be able to turn it around,” the 43-year-old went on, “You’ve got one Test up at Brisbane where no one beats Australia. These next two wickets will be suited to Indian cricket, but I don’t think they’ll be able to turn it around.”
