Boxing: Jose Ramirez to return on September 14 in Las Vegas

Ramirez’s first defense of his WBC title fell through after challenger Danny O’Connor had to withdraw from severe dehydration. Apparently, September 14 will be the new date with an opponent and venue to be announced.

A conflict may be in play with football season right around the corner. This hurts the chances of a homecoming bout taking place in September. Many suspect the new opponent will Be Silver Champion Josh Taylor. However, he has elected to enter the WBSS.

After Friday’s unfortunate events, Ramirez is eager to make his first defense.

Ramirez released a statement Saturday morning: “Come out and support the event as we still have many great fighters and fights and the biggest platform in sports for our city. Come help me show how the Central Valley is united and not only supports boxing but its own.”

At the Save Mart Center, he added, “Thank you all to my fans and sponsors who continued to support, who didn’t let this throw them off and will continue to be supporting moving forward.”
