Rohan Bopanna and Matthew Ebden made a remarkable comeback to defeat Robin Haase and Alexander Zverev in the Round of 16 at the Vienna Open, advancing to the quarterfinals with a score of 2-6, 7-5, 10-5.

The Match

The Indo-Australian pair started the match on a challenging note, losing the first set 2-6 to the Dutch-German duo. However, the duo showed great resilience and determination, levelling the match in the second set with a score of 7-5. The decisive moment came in the super tiebreak, where they held their nerves and clinched the victory 10-5.

Bopanna and Ebden’s Performances

Bopanna and Ebden won 69% of their first serves compared to Haase and Zverev’s 68%, giving them a slight edge. In the second serve, Bopanna and Ebden maintained their advantage, which played a crucial role in their comeback. Overall, they won 64 points compared to their opponents’ 59 points.

After the match, Bopanna commented on their performance, saying, “We started slow. We were lucky to get that break in the 2nd set. We used the momentum in the super tiebreak. When it goes to the super tiebreak, it goes so quickly. But having played together for such a long time helped us.”
