Rutuja Bhosale shines once again at the Billie Jean King Cup

Rutuja Bhosale ranked 379th in the world, set the tone for India’s victory by winning her singles match. She registered a comfortable 6-2, 6-2 win over world No. 301 Sohyun Park in just over an hour.

However, the second singles match saw world No. 255 Ankita Raina lose to world No. 241 Sujeong Jang with a score of 6-2, 6-3. Despite the setback, Raina teamed up with Prarthana Thombare to secure a crucial victory in the doubles rubber. The duo won 6-4, 6-4 against Dabin Kim and Sohyun Park in a match that lasted one hour and 33 minutes.

This 2-1 win over the Korean Republic was India’s third victory in the Asia/Oceania Group I. The team had previously blanked Pacific Oceania 3-0 in their opener and had beaten Chinese Taipei 2-1. Their only loss came against table-toppers China, where they suffered a 3-0 defeat.

With this victory, India moved to second in Pool A with three wins and one loss. The team will need to finish in the top two to earn qualification to the play-offs. A bottom-two finish in the six-team group would see them relegated to Group II for next season.

The Indian tennis team is set to take on New Zealand in their final group match. New Zealand, currently fourth in the table with two wins and two losses, will be a challenging opponent.

As they prepare for their final group match against New Zealand, the team will undoubtedly be looking to maintain their winning momentum and secure a spot in the play-offs.
