Serie A champions Juventus have finally sealed the deal on Matthjis de Ligt for £67.5 million on Thursday, but the news is going to make some overhasty United fans look like idiots.
Following a spectacular campaign for Ajax and Netherlands, the defender was on the radar for some European heavyweights this summer: FC Barcelona, Paris Saint Germain, Manchester City and Mancherster United to name a few.
During the ongoing speculations on the 19-year old’s next destination, some Red Devils fans boarded the hype train, and started printing the Dutch starlet’s name and squad number on the back of their club kits last month, believing Solskjær will land the Ajax skipper to Old Trafford surely.
“This is how confident I am with the De Ligt deal” a Twitter user posted last month, while others started printing “De Ligt 5” on their jerseys.
Some examples can be seen below-

However, the way things have unfolded since June, we can all agree that these have resently become the elephant in the room for the over hyped fans, with some already deleting the tweets.
The Dutch starlet already had his mind set on a move to Turin, agreed personal terms with the Italian giants, and also expressed his desire to play with The Old lady’s talisman Cristiano Ronaldo.
“I always wanted to be Cristiano Ronaldo,” he said in an interview with Voetbal International last month.
Finally, this Thursday, Sarri’s Bianconeri side have finally agreed terms with the Jews, and secured the Dutch starlet with deal of five years, deal along with a wage of £206,000 per week.
