In the recently concluded T20 World Cup 2024, India emerged as champions by defeating South Africa in a thrilling final. Kohli and Rohit played pivotal roles throughout the tournament, and their retirement announcement came amidst the euphoria of lifting the coveted trophy.

“They have retired with the World Cup win, and probably better than any script that was written. Both players are great. They have done a lot for Indian cricket, and I congratulate them and wish them all the best,” Gambhir said.

Kohli, who was named the Player of the Match in the final, delivered a match-winning knock, scoring 76 runs from 59 balls. Rohit, India’s highest run-scorer in the 2024 edition of the T20 World Cup, also played a crucial role in the team’s success.

Gambhir’s admiration extended beyond their T20I careers. He expressed confidence that both players would continue to excel in the longer formats—ODIs and Tests. “They have retired with the World Cup win, and probably better than any script that was written,” Gambhir emphasized. “I am sure they are going to keep contributing to the country and the team.”
