The use of the stadium became an issue after both BFC and track and field athletes locked horns. While the latter stated that the stadium was exclusively built for athletics, neither the DYES nor the High Court were in favour of it.

Finally after the DYES issued the letter of consent, BFC came out to confirm that the season’s opener vs NUFC will be held at their beloved home.

“We can confirm that Bengaluru FC will be playing its home games for the 2019-20 season out of the Sree Kanteerava Stadium,” read the statement from BFC.

“We’d like to take this opportunity to thank the Government. of Karnataka, the Sports Ministry, the Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports, the Karnataka Athletics Association and all other stakeholders and associations for their support.”

However, the club’s CEO Mandar Tamhane admitted that getting the turf ready for the games will be a tough task. With just a few days remaining for the start of the season, Mandar  feels that he’ll again require a good co-operation from DYES.

“It won’t be easy. Currently with only so many days remaining it will be a challenge.”

“Having the pitch in a good condition is again a process that will require co-operation from DYES, people using the stadium and all the others involved in order to ensure that Kanteerava has the best surface in the country for football. We hope we can do that,” said Mandar Tamhane.
