IPL 2021: Ben Stokes slams the pitches on display so far

The initial leg of the IPL 2021 fixtures are being held across two venues, Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, and the MA Chidambaram stadium in Chennai. Both of the venues have had their moments with the stark contrast being on display.

The Chepauk surface has been consistent from the very first game. Batting is easy in the powerplays, but the difficulty to play on it gradually increases as the innings progresses. This has led to several matches decided in the range of scores 130-140, with that being the par score on the wicket.

Meanwhile, Wankhede has had its equal share of run fests and cutter fests. The dual nature of the venue has often surprised captains, players, and commentators as well.

Ben Stokes, who only played a solitary game for Rajasthan Royals this season claimed that the matches should be contested in the 160-170 range of scores, before calling the current pitches trash. Check out the tweet below:

“Hope the wickets don’t get worse as the @IPL gets deeper into the tournament…160/170 minimum not scraping to 130/140 cause the wickets are trash..,”

The England all-rounder has undergone surgery to mend his fracture. RR are currently poised with a huge problem with only 5 overseas players available at their disposal. The injury to Jofra Archer and bubble fatigue to Liam Livingstone leaves only Chris Morris, Jos Buttler, Muztafizur Rahman, David Miller and, Andrew Tye as their overseas options.

Rajasthan Royals have contested all of their four games so far at the Wankhede and will play the final fixture at the venue today against Kolkata Knight Riders. The team have only won one match so far and faced a humiliating 10-wicket loss to league leaders RCB, a few days back.
