With the third Test ended in a draw and a levelled series of 1-1, the fourth and final Test between India and Australia are all set to take place in Brisbane. However, the Indian cricket team, which reached Brisbane for the final Test against Australia, was in surprise on Tuesday after seeing their hotel “lacked basic facilities” and the BCCI had an intervention as well.
Meanwhile, it is learnt that the BCCI president Sourav Ganguly, secretary Jay Shah and CEO Hemang Amin have been contacted with their Cricket Australia counterparts after they were informed about the complaints. However, they have been informed that the Indian team will get everything as per their needs from here on.
“There was no room service or housekeeping facilities. The gym is very basic and not of international standards and the swimming pool can’t be accessed. This wasn’t what they were promised when they checked in,” a senior BCCI source has said to the PTI on conditions of anonymity.
The fourth Test will take place in the Queensland capital from January 15 where the COVID-19 cases have increased rapidly which also saw a border lockdown with New South Wales and that led to strict quarantine rules for the Indian team in their hotel.
The Board source further added: “Yes, they have been provided with a team room and are allowed to meet each other inside the hotel.”
The source again shared: “When the manager enquired about how these things are not being taken care of, all they said was, ‘the rule applies to both Indian and Australian teams. There is no one team that has been subjected to hard quarantine rules.’
Meanwhile, the Indian team is confident that both Sourav Ganguly and Shah will be able to resolve the issue as they are preparing for the series-decider, which is going to start from January 15. While Australia had won the first Test in Adelaide within three days, Team India bounced back well and won the second Test in Melbourne as well. Both the team will now take on each other to seal the series.
