BCCI treasurer Arun Dhumal asserted Virat Kohli will remain Team India’s captain across all formats. Earlier, reports emerged claiming that Kohli will reportedly step down from captaincy in white-ball to concentrate on his batting. The report also claimed that the responsibilities will go down to Rohit Sharma after the T20 World Cup.

The claims of the stress of captaincy affecting Kohli’s batting was one of the talking points of the recently concluded Test series against England. The skipper did not have an eventful outing on England shore but was looking to return to his former self in the latter stages of the tour.

With reports of a coaching overhaul after the T20 showcase still very much on the table, the apparent captaincy change would have meant a great deal of change in Indian cricket. However, the BCCI have put those rumours to rest by strongly denying them. Treasurer Arun Dhumal said:

“This is all rubbish. Nothing (as) such is happening. This is all what you guys (media) are talking about. BCCI has not met or discussed anything on this issue (split captaincy),” Dhumal told IANS. “Virat will remain as the captain (of all formats).”

Moreover, there were also reports coming out claiming that the top personnel of the BCCI held a meeting after being disappointed with Virat Kohli’s decision to field 2 spinners in the playing eleven for the World Test Championship Final against New Zealand in Southampton, a few months back. However, once again, the BCCI Treasurer strongly refuted the rumors claiming that such a meeting never took place.

India have reached new heights under Virat Kohli by becoming a top team across all the formats but the only thing missing from the glittering captaincy resume is a major ICC trophy. It’s what Kohli would look to achieve when he leads the Men In Blue on the field in the UAE for the T20 World Cup.
