Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed that Indian wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant and other player did not breach COVID-19 protocols at the restaurant they were recently seen in Melbourne.

Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant, Shubman Gill and Navdeep Saini did not breach protocol at the restaurant

As noted earlier, the fan named Navaldeep Singh had won many hearts after his heartwarming gesture towards the Indian cricketers.

After spotting the Indian cricketers, Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant, Shubman Gill and Navdeep Saini in a restaurant in Melbourne, the fan paid the bill.

This had certainly gained some attention after he shared the incident on his Twitter account. Many Indian and overseas fans showered praises on the fan.

However, as it turns out, the heartwarming gesture might have put the players in big trouble.

The fan had mentioned in a Tweet how Rishabh Pant had hugged him and that has raised some eyebrows. He had also shared a short video clip of the players.

It was said that apparently, the Indian cricketers have breached the Cricket Australia’s strict bio-security protocols.

The players and staff from both the teams were directed to follow strict measures to reduce the chances of the series getting affected. The rules stated them to eat out but were told to be seated outdoors.

Contradicting to the protocols, the staff at Secret Kitchen, a noodles and BBQ restaurant at Chadstone Shopping Centre, where the players were spotted, confirmed to Sydney Morning Herald.

The staff said that the Indian cricketers were seated indoors, which puts the players, staffs and even the Aussie players at risk.

However,  a BCCI source stated that the players did not breach any protocols.  He also said that all the necessary protocols were followed and the temperature check of the players was also done.

He said: “The boys had just gone out to a restaurant to get some food. They followed all the necessary protocols and their temperature was checked and proper sanitization was done before they sat on the table.

He added: “There is no need to make an issue out of this. As for the whole question of a fan being hugged by Pant, the fan has himself confessed that he had said out of excitement.”

The fan clarifies the situation

The fan took to Twitter once again and clarified the situation stating that: “Clarification – Pant never hugged me it was all said in excitement we maintained social distance all thru:) Apologies for miscommunication @BCCI @CricketAus @dailytelegraph”
