The inaugural season of “The Hundred” is all set to take place this season where each team will play 100 balls. And, as per the latest reports, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) are likely to allow the Under-23 players, to feature in this format. Notably, only those players can take part who will not be on national duty then.

As quoted by The Times of India, “BCCI may allow a certain category of Indian cricketers to participate in ‘The Hundred’”. “The Hundred” is innovated by the England and Wales Cricket Board. This will be played in English summer. Both capped and uncapped U-23 players who are off the national duty may feature in the tournament.”

According to the report, BCCI might not allow other players to be featured in that format. As the pandemic has once again troubled the world, sending players to another country might not be possible for the board amid this crunch time. However, BCCI and England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) have not confirmed anything yet about this.

Meanwhile, the BCCI has not allowed any of their players to take part in other domestic leagues till now apart from their own Indian Premier League (IPL). However, currently, the players are playing in the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) – the biggest franchise-based domestic league all over the world.

BCCI is also planning to include two more teams from the next season. While it takes two months to conclude an entire season, the inclusion of two more teams will inflate the time slot too. Hence, a longer window will be needed to host IPL which will witness more doubleheaders and extra pressure on broadcasters and the management as well.

“A bigger window for the IPL in future will be BCCI’s biggest takeaway from this,” said an industry executive to The Times of India.

The 14th edition of the Indian Premier League is currently taking place which started on April 9 and the final will be played on May 30 as well. The entire tournament is taking place in six cities this season: Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Delhi, Bangalore, and Ahmedabad and no team will get the home advantage too. The playoffs and final will take place at the Motera Stadium, Ahmedabad.
