The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a significant cash reward for the groundsmen and curators who worked tirelessly throughout the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.

BCCI’s support for IPL Groundsmen

The BCCI Secretary, Jay Shah, described the groundsmen and curators as the “unsung heroes” of the successful T20 season. Their hard work and dedication resulted in brilliant pitches, even under challenging weather conditions.

As a token of appreciation, the BCCI has decided to award INR 25 lakhs to each of the groundsmen and curators at the ten regular IPL venues. These venues include Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata, Chandigarh, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Lucknow, Ahmedabad, and Jaipur.

In addition to the regular venues, the BCCI has also decided to reward the ground staff at the three additional venues in Guwahati, Dharamsala, and Vizag with INR 10 lakhs each.

The IPL 2024 was a high-scoring season with a record number of sixes hit across 74 matches. The pitches were absolute belters, and teams enjoyed batting on them. The highest team score of 287 for 3 in the IPL was set by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Punjab Kings (PBKS) also set the record for the highest successful run-chase in IPL history, tracking down 262 against the Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

The BCCI’s decision to reward the groundsmen and curators is a commendable move. It not only recognizes the hard work and dedication of these individuals but also highlights the importance of their role in the successful conduct of the tournament.
