Team India completed a remarkable turnaround in the Border-Gavaskar series to retain the trophy. From being dismissed for 36 at Adelaide to chase down 328 at the Gabba, the team have defied all the odds which came in the form of injuries, sledging and racism to win a series Down Under for the second consecutive time. The Indian cricketing governing body appreciated the efforts of the Indian contingent and announced a 5 Crore team bonus.

BCCI President Sourav Ganguly and BCCI Secretary announced the bonus right after India completed the mammoth chase and lifted the trophy.

“The @BCCI has announced INR 5 Crore as team bonus. These are special moments for India Cricket. An outstanding display of character and skill” #TeamIndia #AUSvIND #Gabba Jay Shah tweeted

“Just a remarkable win…To go to Australia and win a test series in this way ..will be remembered in the history of indian cricket forever ..Bcci announces a 5 cr bonus for the team ..The value of this win is beyond any number ..well done to every member of the touring party.., ” the BCCI President tweeted

India were faced with a daunting target of 328 on a Day 5 pitch at the Gabba, a venue where Australia have not lost a test match in 32 years.

The visitors set the tone for the chase early on by denying Australia a flurry of series in the first session. Having lost only a single wicket till lunch, India slowly switched gears keeping an eye on the required rate and preserving wickets at the same time.

The approach remained the same until Cummins with the new ball proved to be too hot to handle for the batting-unit. While it seemed that the clash will head for a draw, Washington Sundar aided Pant with a vital cameo. The wicket-keeper batsman, pushed India over the line with a couple of overs to spare and deservedly win the man of the match award. Pat Cummins was awarded the man of the series for scalping 21 wickets in the series.
