The Indian cricketer made his debut back in November 2017 at the T20 International New Zealand vs India. The batsman was missing from the grounds at the international matches for quite some time until he made a comeback in the ODI series in the match between India and the West Indies that took place in August this year.

After his debut, he played in Sri Lanka ODI series and grabbed everyone’s attention by hitting half-centuries. Next, he played against South Africa in the ODI series. He was dropped from the World Cup team after this, and hence he did not make an appearance during the World Cup championship. Soon after India’s sad defeat in the semi-finals at the World Cup, he was back playing against West Indies in the ODI series in August.

Chief selector, MSK Prasad told the media, “If you recall, we had inducted Shreyas Iyer (when Virat Kohli was rested) 18 months back into the ODI squad, and he has done reasonably well. Unfortunately, we couldn’t continue with him. Having said that, he has evolved as a player now, and he can be the solution to our No. 4 slot in both ODIs and T20Is.”

Due to his impressive record at the domestic level and the India A-game, he was drafted into the ODI and T20I team.
