La Liga giants Barcelona have announced the signing of Ligue 1 side Toulouse’s defender Jean Clair-Todibo, who will join the Catalonian side come July. The French youngster’s contract in France is due to be over with the season, and will be on his way to Spain as a free agent.

Todibo joined Toulouse in 2016 and only made his first-team Ligue 1 debut earlier in August this season, starring in the Derby de la Garonne against rivals Bordeaux, which Toulouse went on to win 2-1. The 18-year old Frenchman has made 10 appearances so far, starting in all of them, and seems to have impressed in all his outings. The young centre back also scored in the team’s 1-1 draw at Rennes in September earlier.

However, with his contract due to expire in June this year, Tobido being free to negotiate with other clubs, will eventually move on a free transfer. Sparking the interest of Catalan side Barcelona, Todibo has reached an agreement to join them on a free in July following the expiry of his contract.

Being versatile as both, a defender as well as midfielder, Todibo might be Barca’s future planning of replacing Gerard Pique as the Spaniard continues to age with each passing day. Even though it would appear like he has some large boots to fill, the multiple La Liga champions trust the young Frenchman to do the job well.
