Barcelona are trying hard to land two Dutch youngsters in the winter transfer window. Ajax’s Sporting Director Marc Overmars also stated that the Catalan Giants are in the pole position to sign Matthijs de Ligt and Frankie De Jong in January.
In a recent interview, Marc Overmars stated,
“Barcelona is my favourite, it’s a fantastic club, but there are two other clubs that are very close.
Messi can help, money is not important for them, last year they could have gone with good offers and they decided to stay. They didn’t need me to speak well of Barça because they already know it.”
Barcelona were trying to sign these two players from the previous summer transfer window. However, at that time they opted to stay at their home club. Marc Overmars also clarified that the players are joining Barcelona not for the high wages but for gaining the experience of playing with Lionel Messi.
Matthijs de Ligt is one of the best youngsters playing in the European football circuit. The Catalan Giants are surely wishing to keep Matthijs de Ligt ready to replace Gerard Pique after a season. Frenkie De Jong will also be a good addition in the squad of Barcelona and the player can develop himself in the new club.
