Indian grappling superstars Bajrang Punia and Vinesh Phogat will be flying overseas for their training, as the Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS) of the Sports Ministry has granted their requests.
Bajrang and Vinesh requested to train in Kyrgyzstan and Poland respectively. While Bajrang appealed for a 16-day training session in Cholpon-Ata, Vinesh’s request was for an 11-day drill at the at the Olympic Preparation Centre in Spala.
With the requests of both wrestlers having been approved, the financial assiatance will cover both Bajrang and Vinesh’s air tickets, camp expenses which includes the cost of training, boarding, lodging, as well as miscellaneous costs like airport transfer, insurance and internal travel, out of pocket allowance among other expenses, according to a press release.
Aside from covering the individual expenses of Bajrang and Vinesh, TOPS will also cover the expenses of Bajrang’s coach Sujeet Maan, physiotherapist Aanand Kumar, and strength and conditioning expert Kaazi Kiron Mustafa Hasan, as well as Vinesh’s sparring partner – Sangeeta Phogat and physiotherapist Ashwini Jeevan Patil.
