In a disappointment for the Indian fans, defending Asian Games champion Bajrang Punia has lost in the semi-finals against Iran’s Amouzadkhalili Rahman, who is the current Asian champion. Rahman defeated Punia 8-1 in a dominant performance.
Bajrang Punia will now contest for the Bronze medal match later against Japan’s Kaiki Yamaguchi in a tough contest.
Earlier Bajrang Punia had defeated Bahrain’s Alibeg Alibegov in the Wrestling Men’s Freestyle 65kg 1/4 final 4-0 by points to qualify for the semifinal. Prior to that, he had defeated Ronil Tubog 10-0 via technical superiority.
