The 27-year-old star wrestler, Bajrang Punia in a spectacular bout on Saturday wins bronze for the country. The medal count for India now stands at seven! Bajrang had taken part in the men’s 65kg category.

The wrestler had a knee injury and his supporters were worried about his condition. His injury had lowered his chances of winning against the 32-year-old wrestling champion Daulet Niyazbekov. Daulet is a two-time defending World Champion and three-time Asian Champion and it was not going to be easy for Bajrang to take him down.

Bajrang’s father and coach had full confidence in him as they assured everyone before the start of the event, that he is not going to come home “empty-handed”. And he certainly, didn’t. He finished the match with an impressive 8-0 score.

Bajrang had been defeated by Daulet before in the 2019 World championship. The event was full of controversy as Daulet had committed foul repeatedly but the mat chairman overlooked it.

After his victory, he was showered with congratulations from celebs, leaders, and netizens alike. Twitteratis are even calling him Bajrang Bali and putting up tweets like, “Jai Bajrang Bali”.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted:

Delightful news from #Tokyo2020! Spectacularly fought@BajrangPunia. Congratulations to you for your accomplishment, which makes every Indian proud and happy.”

Virender Sehwag tweeted:

“Jai Bajrang Bali. Shaabaash @BajrangPunia on winning the Bronze. Brilliant #BajrangPunia.”
